Empty chairs at the Canaan, CT Seventh-day Adventist church awaited community members who were eager to learn English.
And they came!
January 30 was opening night of our Canaan SDA Community ESL Program. Thus far, we have been blessed with over 20 students who come weekly to our Monday night classes.
Church members Rosa Ortiz and Jimmy Diaz teach the beginner level. Linda Knutson and Luis Blanco teach the level 1 class, and Ed and Martha Scott teach the level 2 class.
Every class session our teachers open with a word of encouragement followed by prayer. This has been a great blessing for our church volunteers and for the community.
Please continue praying for this project as we know that it will become a great tool to make friendly contacts with those around us.
Pastor Abraham Perez and members of the Canaan, CT church are simply following the advice given on how to bless the community and themselves and to reach their community for Christ:
"The very simplest modes of work should be devised and set in operation among the churches. If the members will unitedly accept such plans, and perseveringly carry them out, they will reap a rich reward; for their experience will grow brighter, their ability will increase, and through their efforts souls will be saved.” Testimonies for the Church, vol 6, p. 433.
